80′s Tambayan
The Masig tambayan in UPLB had migrated to several places around the campus, but it is its current location that had lasted for more than two decades since it was built in 1986. It has therefore become a landmark not only to us Masigs but to everyone in the campus. The choice of the location and the construction of its original wooden benches was a project spearheaded by Lord Chancellor Ramon Soriano and together with the Marvelous ’80s. The wooden benches have now been replaced by concrete benches which are more permanent. A huge acacia tree (purportedly planted by Brother Macario Rafael Mendoza) with its spreading crown provides a cooler microclimate to the brothers who just love to hang out at the tambayan. A concrete slab with the inscription of the Greek letters Alpha and Sigma serves as the centerpiece in the tambayan, a solemn reminder of the enduring legacy of the fraternity in the campus. The tambayan is located in front of the School of Environmental Science and Management, and across the street from it is the Biological Sciences Building.
